Daniela Maciel: PT/DK, b. 1989, lives and works in Aalborg, Denmark
I am a Danish/Portuguese trans-disciplinary artist and sound designer, b. 1989, based in Aalborg, DK.
I am deeply inspired by science and nature. I find it important to become aware of habits and shake them up now and again. Through artistic and scientific methods, I seek to question what I and other people view as norms. I explore ways of viewing, experiencing and perceiving the world. I wish to bring focus on what is generally viewed as negative or what seems to have been forgotten, and dive into themes such as death, ugliness, chaos and uselessness.
I am especially interested in challenging the general ways we humans perceive nature and natural phenomena. I strive to work towards co-existing with nature, empathy, listening, and sustainable thinking.
I’m fascinated with sound as the dynamic system it is, and I explore different ways of working with the invisible medium. This has led me to study sound environments and our relation to these; record sounds from plant roots, dead trees and my own body; and program sound works that changes continuously. I’ve also worked with flowers, poetry and textile.
I’m interested in creating artistic, sensual experiences where an intimate meeting between listener and sound work can happen. I create a space that supports active listening and time to just be. I’m fascinated with how listening can activate the imagination and reflections about ourselves and the world we live in.
